| Gauteng
is the most densely populated province in the Republic of
South Africa, with a population of approximately 9.5M people.
Project Scope and Background:
The BAOKI Consortium (comprising AMEtHST (pty) Ltd and Equiton
Investments (pty) Ltd) has signed an agreement with the
Gauteng Department of Health (GDoH) to provide an integrated
province wide Health Information Systems (HIS) and an Electronic
Health Record (E.HR) for every patient in Gauteng.
Gauteng is the most densely populated province in the Republic
of South Africa, with a population of approximately 9.5M
people.
BAOKI will now roll the integrated systems out across the
Gauteng province over the next three years, covering a total
of 37 hospitals, 400+ clinics, approximately 17,000 beds
and upwards of 20,000 GDoH staff.
The main benefit to arise from the programme will be the
provision of an electronic health record for each patient
in Gauteng available across the province, where it is needed,
when it is needed, by whom it is needed with appropriate
security.
The new HIS/EHR systems will provide significant financial
benefits to GDoH, improvement in the quality of Health Services
provided and much higher staff and patient satisfaction.
Speedminer: BI and Data Warehouse Tool of Choice for
GDOH
Speedminer plays a significant role in allowing BAOKI and
the GDOH to achieve the objectives as defined for the project,
in which access to data and information is critical.
Speedminer allows for the aggregation of patient data across
the province into a single data warehouse, in REAL TIME,
with the following benefits:
1. Standardisation of the GDoHs key performance indicators
across all facilities
2. Improved statistical reporting at all levels:
xxxxa. Individual Facilities
(Clinics and Hospitals)
xxxxb. Aggregated across the
Provincial Government of Gauteng
xxxxc. Aggregated into districts
and sub-districts
3. The ability to efficiently supply the National Department
of Health with required information from the province.
4. Ease of access to GDoH end users, whereby GDoH stakeholders
have access to:
xxxxa. Dashboards, enabling
decision making based on up-to-date information
xxxxb. Statistics, with the
ability to drill down into detailed activities
xxxxc. End-user reports and
queries; fully integrated into the HIS application
5. The ability to efficiently analyse revenue and costs,
and plan the necessary interventions.
Speedminer has proved to be accessible
to all levels of users, easy to train and cost-effective
to implement.
