Background
Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute
(MARDI) is a statutory body which has been mandated to conduct
research in agriculture, food and agro-based industries
in Malaysia. MARDI is managed and guided by the regulations
and policies set by the MARDI Governing Board and consented
by the Minister of Agriculture And Agro-Based Industry.
Problem Faced & Requirement
Before the implementation of Speedminer, Mardi faced problems
in integrating their data from multiple systems(namely PROPER
& INTEAM) from different data sources. Reporting was
time-consuming, resource intensive and report customization
was the order of the day. Their reports were stored and
done either in MS excel or in complicated SQL query, and
some reports were even prepared manually. The methods of
producing reports were also rigid and susceptible to errors.
For example, data was mismatched between data sources. The
management was not able to access all the data from the
most important systems in a ready-to-use format from one
single environment, more specifically visual display of
data, business analysis and timely report generation.
Achievement
Speedminer has successfully support Mardi's business intelligence
initiatives, providing reporting and analytics for multiple
areas across the agency. Due to its user-friendly features
in one of the modules of Speedminer named Speed Analyzer,
the users even without programming skill are able to create
complicated analysis which the data are from multiple systems
in a few "clicks".
Its intuitive Web interface has extended
the benefits of enterprise business intelligence to all
levels of users across the agency, hence it reduces the
workload of IT department especially in preparing ad-hoc
reports to their end users. Now, the users are able to access
to accurate data and analysis to make day-to-day business
decisions. All these help to increase internal operational
efficiency and employee productivity.
How long to complete the project?
The Speedminer Implementation was very smooth and took us
1 month to complete the project. The solution comes with
a personalized dashboard to track a variety of analysis
and reports necessary to manage operations.

the percentage of achievement of new technologies with commercial
potential against the target RMK9.

horticulture research, biotechnology research etc.

degrees in PhD, MSc and BSc
against the target set.

commercialization achievement against the target.
