Most data warehouse bottleneck
to serve more users. How much data can be handled and how many requests
can be handled at any one time, and how many users may concurrently access
to the Data Warehouse is all depending on the performance of OLAP engine.
Speed OLAP is less resource
hungry as compared to many OLAP engine, thus allowing more users to be
served under the same specification of hardware. Speedminer is the most
scalable data warehouse solution on the market with the support of true
multi-tier architecture, and distributed database architecture.
For extremely
huge setup (e.g. telecommunications industry) the Speed OLAP Server can
further distribute the load to multiple servers. Each OLAP Server will
store only a section of the data for the entire data warehouse, thus allowing
distribution of workload. This facilitates a better networking design
to separate the group of users to achieve best network performance. As
shown in the previous diagram, Accounting users are linked directly to
the Accounting OLAP Server for best performance as the accounting data
is accessed frequently, however those users still can access HR and other
OLAP information via VLAN setup in the switch within LAN.
Fast and More Consistent Performance
Data warehouse (MOLAP/HOLAP) uses pre-computed aggregates to
boost performance, but suffers extremely slow performance during
drill down when the dimension is not summarized in the CUBE. Arbitrary
time span query is also not supported by the CUBE. Speed OLAP uses
sophisticated algorithm to calculate all aggregates in real time
and still able to deliver best performance at all levels.
