Water Industry Business Intelligence System (WIBIS)
The Water Industry Business Intelligence System (WIBIS) is an advanced, integrated system developed using Speedminer for data capturing, reporting, analysis, and analytics. WIBIS consolidates information from all water operators, including their cost and revenue breakdowns, daily water production, dam information (such as daily water levels), SPAN’s internal databases, and data from social media, including newsfeeds, tweets, and web scraping. All this information is centralized into the Enterprise Data Warehouse. The consolidated data fuels the creation of impactful visual analyses and reports for the management dashboard, enabling users to gain critical insights related to their departments.
Tariff Modelling
The Tariff Modelling module is the most crucial component of WIBIS. This module allows SPAN to make forward projections on consumption profiles and tariff costs with high accuracy. The system is designed with certain flexibilities and rules to permit human intervention when necessary. By leveraging Speedminer, all calculations previously done manually using MS Excel are now performed programmatically by the system, complete with checks and alerts. Users can filter the end results according to their reporting needs, ensuring that the output is both reliable and valid.
WIBIS Big Data Analytics
WIBIS Big Data Analytics encompasses web scraping (automatically scraping complaints, notifications, and other information from water operators’ websites), sentiment analysis (on tweets), and the automatic loading of news on specific topics through RSS feeds from sources like Astro Awani, Malay Mail, and Berita Harian. This module focuses on sourcing information from the internet regarding public complaints about water issues in Malaysia. All gathered information is systematically categorized and stored within the Speedminer Knowledge Management system, facilitating easy search and retrieval.
Analysis and Reports
With WIBIS, SPAN can generate various types of analyses, charting reports, and graphical management dashboards, replacing their previous method of listing reports. The automation of reporting saves significant time, and the integration with the Enterprise Data Warehouse ensures that all information is accessible from a single system.
